Buganda Kingdom has launched a Kingdom Identification Mechanism known as (Endagabwami) for its Officials in the Kingdom as a strategic investment to eliminate masqueraders in the Buganda Leadership.
This was launched on Wednesday 10th Janury 2018 by the state minister for Local government Oweek Joseph Kawuki at Buwekula Council Lukiiko Hall stating that Buganda Leaders from village levels will get these identification marks since these are the immediate service providers.
The Buganda Kingdom delegation had an inter-joint dialogue with Mubende district local government officials over Buganda estates in Mubende including the administrative seats and other properties that were returned to Buganda Kingdom by the central government, but currently still in the custody of the district leadership.
The two parties agreed the district Chief Administrative officer to formally inform the different organs for Buganda Officials to take over these properties through Namulondo Investments, Buganda’s entity that manages its states.
“The Buganda Kingdom Chief’s Identity exercise is starting with the Ggombolola Chief and all the Chieftaincy for easy identification of Buganda Kingdom Officials. Many people have solicited funds and other items in the guise of serving Buganda’s interest which at times not true” The minister said.
Oweek Joseph Kawuki on launching the initiative said, it will traverse all the 18 Counties of Buganda to ensure that the structure is well cleansed for masqueraders.
This follows the memorandum derived at by the President of the Republic of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and His Majesty the King of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II on 1st August 2013 at State House Entebbe, and handed over all Buganda’s belonging that have been in the custody of Central government since 1966 late Dr Milton Obote’s regime.
