Close to 350 families in Kambuye in Mubende municipality facing eviction have pleaded to local authorities to investigate the purported land owners of their land before being rendered homeless.

The embattled land has two claimants Kayiwa Emmanuel and Kawesi George at Plot 13 and 22 whose totals indicate that Kayiwa Emanuel is the rightful owner and Ssemivubo Joseph is on plot 28.

They pin the Mpigi Resident district Commissioner Hajj Swaibu Waggwa Lubega of aiding this eviction alleging that the police officers guarding Kawesi George because they are not attached to Mubende Central Police Station.

During a crisis meeting, residents decried the tension which they are living today with no economic activity taking place after Kawesi George coming up to claim this land which for long locals have been paying rental fees”Obusuulu” to the land lords.

Led by the Kambuye LC Chairperson Lutaaya Fred said that the land has for long been guarded by private security guards deployed by Mr Kayiwa Emanuel but since Kawesa George got to this place tension risen which is forcing residents to drop farming the only economic activity in the area, expecting an eviction any time.”We have for long paid our Busuulu to Kayiwa but last year 2017 Kawesa George came to this place with help of police and started issuing warnings them that he owns this land but the title he is fronting has different plots and block numbers which we can relay on to confirm this claim. We request our leaders during this meeting to help us locate the rightful owner of this land because many of us are bibanja holders and we don’t intend to leave this land”.

Lutaaya Fred said. The Mubende Resident District Commissioner Princes Evelyn Tinkamalirwe Amooti who attended by Kawesi George purporting to be the owner; convened a crisis meeting with other district leaders cautioned these land lords against illegal evictions and use of government uniformed officials because the land laws are clear in case of any eviction.

It has been resolved to summon Mpigi Resident District Commissioner Hajj Swaibu Waggwa Lubega to appear and respond to these accusations, which left many residents at stranded of their fate.

Others in attendance was the Mubende municipal MP Hon Ssemmuli Anthony, Mubende DPC Martine Okoyo and other local leaders.
