Mubende Cattle keepers are in fear of a deadly cattle disease.



A deadly cattle disease outbreak that kills animals in a short while  has rounded over Mubende district, causing un-understandable panic among cattle keepers.

200 heads of cattle in the district have so far succumbed to the disease in one week while other 1000 heads in Kigando Sub County within one month are being monitored by the authorities to have them vaccinated.

Tonny Kibazo, one of the affected farmers said, it’s being catalyzed by a new type of drug resistant tick with which are suspected to be vectors of a deadly East Coast Fever (ECF).

Kibazo told the state minster for animal Industry, Joy Kafura Kabatsi who was monitoring the affected areas of Kigando Sub County that in the last three weeks he lost seven heads of cattle, posing a big challenge to his farm.

Bennald Ssettaala, the veterinary officer confirmed the outbreak adding that it’s caused mostly by new types of drug resistant ticks.

However Ssettala asked the minister to find the lasting solution to this epidemic.

Minister Kabatsi assured the affected Mubende farmers that the government has got a solution to this crisis but blamed the resistance to the alleged fake drugs that are circulating on the market adding that government has already got drugs which is yet to be distributed to farmers as the case has been on army warms.

She cautioned government officials against soliciting money from these farmers to have free drugs.

The State minister for Kampala who is also Mubende District woman Member of Parliament urged desperate farmers to be cautious against face drugs on the market, and called on veterinary officials to do close monitoring.
